Geelong’s narrow win over Fremantle on Sunday has come at considerable cost with both Joel and Scott Selwood in doubt for next week’s blockbuster clash with Greater Western Sydney, while Tom Stewart and Darcy Lang are also set to miss.
Joel Selwood was knocked out in a collision with Hayden Ballantyne in the opening minutes of Sunday’s match and lay motionless on the ground for some time before initially being helped from the ground.
Selwood eventually shrugged off the runners and jogged to the bench, but played no further part in the match and with just six days to recover ahead of the match at Spotless Stadium, the inspirational skipper must be in doubt.
The decision to play his brother in the match against Freo may have backfired with Scott Selwood appearing to aggravate the hamstring injury he suffered the previous week against West Coast.
Selwood proved his fitness ahead of the Dockers match, but spent plenty of time on the bench later in the game getting treatment.
He would be a major doubt to face the Giants, as will Darcy Lang, who missed much of the second half with a lower leg problem, leaving the Cats with just one player on the bench.
