Coach: Jack O’Neill
Salary Remaining: $13,200
Looking at my defence, I’m still not sure that I’ll be lining up with three on-field rookies. I know it’s a popular position this year (to line-up like that), but something doesn’t seem to sit well with me on that this season. Nick Coffield came from my midfield, allowing me to add another premium there – so he might be swung back if I decide against my current setup. My rookies all over the park are by no means set and are really dependent on who plays Round 1.
I was thinking of starting with Elliot Yeo – but given his high price, I’m not quite sure I can justify it early on. Shane Savage stood out for the Saints during the JLT Series, and as a Saints supporter – I’m hoping he doesn’t burn me and become a Callum Mills 2.0.
Patrick Dangerfield is no certainty to take his place in my side, let alone the Geelong side. Put simply, I’m willing to part with the coin for him, but if he’s not playing Round 1 – then he’s not playing for me either. My thinking is that if he’s not right for Round 1 (and we’re talking Dangerfield here…he’ll play at less than 100%) then I’ll watch him lose value before bringing him in. I’m still pondering over Tom Rockliff and have been told by a mate to consider Lachie Whitfield. I’m a fan of Stephen Coniglio this season after seeing what he’s done to date – and at his price, he’s a risk worth taking.
From a dart and a cruiser, all the way to my SuperCoach team comes Max Gawn. I’ve also selected Toby Nankervis – I think he’ll do a serviceable job, while also saving me some money, rather than splash out on a more-premium ruckman at the expense of another premium. Darcy Cameron is on the bench because the hype is that he’s likely to play a few games this year. If he does, that’s a bonus – but if he doesn’t then move on over Luke Strnadica.
I’m hoping that Jack Billings can improve on last year. I’m not just selecting him because I’m a bias Saints supporter, either. Devon Smith at a new club I’m hoping goes to another level and he hasn’t cost me an arm and a leg either. Together with Luke Dahlhaus and Isaac Heeney – hopefully, the boys pull together for the SuperSaints.
